Ashita no kioku/ The Memories of Tomorrow

Masayuki Saeki is a famous supervisor in an advertisement company. He is hardworking and respected by his officers and co-workers. He can devote himself in his work with the support of his wife, Emiko will be married very soon with an unborn baby. Happiness seems surrounding him all around. Until one day, due to the long headache, he goes to the doctor, and he amazingly knows that his health has faded away gradually. He can't not remember his co-workers, the street he passes everyday. He can't even remember the meeting time that which was decided one minute ago.

The theme of the book is describing a man who is disabled by Alzheimer's Disease and the interaction between he and his co-workers, friends and family members. In the movie, the memory of Saeki and Emiko in the youth appears again and again. In the novel, detailed information of Alzheimer is described like becoming forgetful, but the disease can't be cured. When a man suffers Alzheimer, he can't live over five to seven years.
When Saeki is told by his doctor, he can't believe the serious consequence. In the movie, Saeki even wants to jump out of the hospital building to end his life, but the doctor and Emiko succeed encourging him to face the reality. Emiko says "I will be with you forever." The words are not the love dialogue between elder couple. From the moment, the destiny of the couple is determined. They will walk together in the long life.

I'm wondering why the movie is so popular among the audience. The reason is that the plots in the movie may become reality among our life. Not only the patient of Alzhemier, the range can enlarge to all families which have elder people. In the seventies, the health problems will be serious. When our parents' health problem have been worse or they may even pass away very soon, how will we feel and what will we think. Will we regret that we haven't treated them well enpugh and how can we accompany them to the rest of their life. When the day come one day, how can we face it?
